its that time of year for all of the most delicious stone fruit….peaches, plums, apricots, and then of course berries and cherries too. its a great time to make yummy treats, refreshing fruit infused sangria, or jams and preserves. we’ve recently realized our sweet and lovely plum tree was rather abundant so some of the grandkids helped me pick and snack on a quite a loot of sweet plums. they are a perfect tiny snack for all the littles. we would love to try out something new with all these plums like this olive oil ricotta cake. it sounds like a nice delicate summer dessert; perfect with some buttermilk vanilla ice cream perhaps? take the work out of deseeding and this plum wine will reap its rewards come fall. we also love the idea of grilling them for a salad, making a fruit salsa, or mixing them with other summer fruit for a tasty crostada. hope this inspires you to use that summer fruit in a new adventurous way!
sometimes its nice to freshen and lighten up your home for those summer days. we love to use our bella notte linens for just that…be it new summer sheets, pillows, or a throw. we love feeling swept away by creating that beachy look in your home, with just the right candle; you can practically feel the sand and smell the sea! come in and let us know if we can help you achieve a nice fresh look in your home. check out some of our favorite cisco swivel chairs in linen as well. cheers to summer looks and vacation plans!
a weekend away to celebrate motherhood, sisterhood, birthdays and all the good things in life led me to san francisco this past weekend. even after having been here a couple of times before, it always feels like a city brand new and fresh in its liveliness, culture and continuous new development. while we were met with rather cold rainy weather it did not slow us down one bit! trolleys, buses, ubers, and lots of walking kept us hopping from one charming spot to the next. met with a bit of sunshine and blue skies on our last day, i was feeling rather overwhelmed with blessings to have such a wonderful family and be able to take such a fun trip to the big city.
some of my faves? pizzeria delfino in pacific heights; lively, amazing pizza, beet salad and burrata/arugala salad. follow that with some smitten ice cream and you are good to go. cute shops in the haight area and the charming biergarten there. hot clam chowder in a bread bowl down by the pier. chinatown! dolores park in the mission and the ice cream bar there…yes…more ice cream. tartine bakery….don’t miss it. hoppin union square and all the street performers. fresh flower stands with so many lovlies i was tempted to pack them and bring them home! and lastly the ferry building full of little shops, restaurants and market goods.
and now its back to reality. travel is good for the soul and helps you to appreciate all you are blessed with at home. happy week friends!
cinco de mayo anyone? we love any reason to celebrate with good mexican food, great company, and our latest craze….pickle ball! you have to give it a try! get some friends together over a great meal and play a few competitive rounds into the evening. you’re sure to have an evening full of laughs. we recently did so, dining al fresco, candle lit with some of our dear old friends. it was a great night to remember. on the menu? we enjoyed a nice chilled tomato based gazpacho soup with lots of crisp veggie toppings, margaritas and the perfect cinco treat…alton brown’s tres leches cake topped with lots of fresh berries. happy party planning.
looking for a unique mother’s day gift? we have you covered. here are some of our favorite ideas at the willows: lavande (purely amazing lavender scented) lotion or linen spray or mosquito spray for the upcoming warm weather; we can put together a basket in the shop of some of her faves…a new white t-shirt, a candle and fresh flowers; perhaps some new bella notte linens for summer; or the number one…a perfectly crisp white cp shades linen button down. let us know what we can do to help you find the perfect gift for that mama in your life. don’t forget mom’s day is coming up on May 8th!
some of my absolute favorite and most elegant dishes we carry in the shop are from our astier de villatte collection. their charm and perfectly imperfect crafted nature can not be beat. handmade in Paris from black terra cotta clay and glazed in milky white, they can go from everyday durable wear to the prettiest and most dashing dinner party. each piece is a unique collectible you will want to hand down to your children or dearest friends. come by and check them out if you are unfamiliar and love white dishes as much as we do! happy tuesday.
